| RETURN HOME | uploading web pages |
Once you have created your web pages, you will need to upload (transfer) them to our web server. To do this, you will need an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application. Some HTML editors such as Netscape Communicator have FTP utilities built right into the application. If your HTML editor does not have a built-in FTP utility, you can download a stand-alone FTP client. For Windows users, we recommend WS_FTP. For Mac users, we recommend Fetch. Once you have an FTP program installed, you will use it to connect to our webserver to upload your HTML documents and graphics.
Note: you should name your main document (the first one you want people to see) "index.html". Windows 3.x users cannot use 4 character file extensions and must convert the file extension from .htm to .html after it is uploaded into their web directory. You can do this by using the "rename" feature of your FTP program. Please note the following examples for naming your main HTML document:
This only applies to standard personal webpages. Business webpages have slightly different addresses. We suggest that you take time to explore the links to the tutorials that are listed on our Learning HTML page.
