Southland Internet Services' goal is to provide reliable internet access
for our subscribers. Our account policies were designed to help
make your use of the Internet a positive and secure experience.
We are committed to and support the free flow of information and ideas
over the Internet. We do not actively exercise editorial control
over or monitor the content of our users' web sites, however, we do
reserve the right to remove any material which is illegal by local,
state or federal law; and/or material which could subject us to liability.
Certain
situations can decrease our ability to provide high-quality service,
therefore, these situations are prohibited:
- Using
personal account web space for hosting commerical or business related
web pages.
- Using
any type of Southland.Net account or web site for illegal
purposes or in support of illegal activities.
- Transmitting
(posting or emailing) unsolicited material through our network.
If a user sends unsolicited material through our network, that user
will be billed for the amount of time that it takes to deal with
anything related to the unsolicited material (responding to complaints,
cleaning up returned/undeliverable email, etc)
- Using
a Southland.Net account as a means for collecting and/or answering
responses related to unsolicited email or newsgroup messages.
- Threats
of bodily harm or property damage sent through email and/or newsgroup
postings.
- Making
fraudulent offers of products, items, or services through the use
of any Southland.Net account.
- Attempting
to access the accounts of others, or attempting to penetrate the
security measures of any computer network regardless of whether
or not the intrusion results in corruption or loss of data.
- Revealing
your account password to others and/or allowing use of your account
by others who are not members of your immediate family.
- Attempting
to mask or forge any message header (in part or whole) of any electronic
transmission, originating or passing through Southland.Net's system.
- Cross-posting
advertisements for products, items, or services to USENET newsgroups.
- Continuously
posting articles to any USENET or other newsgroup, mailing list
or similar forum which are considered off-topic according to the
group or forum.
- Disrupting
any newsgroup or mailing lists with frivolous, threatening, or repetitious
postings.
- The
use of IRC bots and/or cloning (multiple connections to the same
IRC server). If Southland.Net is banned from an IRC server due to
the use of bots or because of cloning, the offending account will
be terminated.
- The
impersonation or any individual, group or business through the use
of a Southland.Net account.
- Reselling
any type of service on our network without prior consent.
- Any
activity which adversely affects our ability to provide quality
service, reliable connectivity and good relations with other networks.
Becoming
a subscriber to Southland Internet Services constitutes an agreement
to acknowledge and abide by the following guidelines:
1. Southland Internet Services' Network is not to be used for any
illegal activities or other purposes prohibited by law.
2. The customer assures that all information when applying for an
account is correct. The customer agrees to update this information
within a month if changes are made.
3. Copyrighted material can only be placed on the Southland Internet
Services system with the author's permission. The customer
or user assumes all risks in determining whether such material is
copyrighted or public domain.
4. Southland Internet Services will maintain the strict privacy
of all customer and user accounts except in the case of court order.
Southland Internet Services, however, does not guarantee the safety,
accuracy, or content of any materials or information on the Internet
or any materials the customer transfers or receives on the Internet.
The customer or user acknowledges that all information obtained
on the Internet is provided without warranty of any kind and that
the customer's or user's risk of acting on such information is entirely
his/her own.
5. Southland Internet Services reserves the right to modify the
network guidelines at any time by publishing such modifications
over this page and sending notices to each customer and user.
6. The customer or user agrees to waive all claims against Southland
Internet Services, legal or otherwise incurred through the use of
the Internet. The customer also agrees to indemnify and hold
harmless Southland Internet Services from any claims and expenses
related to the customer's or user's violation of the Account Guidelines
stated on this page.
7. The customer will be held financially responsible for any damage
incurred as a result of said customer's violation(s) of any Southland
Internet policy. This includes but is not limited to: hardware and/or
software repair, and all labor costs related to the violation.
(Users under the age of 18):
Southland Internet Services does not accept minors as customers.
To this extent all new accounts must be paid for and maintained in
the name of a legal adult. Parents who apply for accounts on
behalf of minors should understand the Internet contains material
which might be harmful to children. Allowing any level of Internet
access poses the risk that your children may be exposed to these materials.
It is the account holder's responsibility to monitor the usage of
the account by family members.
Southland Internet Services reserves the right to suspend any user's
Internet access, including the right to terminate a user's account
at any time and without notice, if we suspect that the user has misrepresented
his/her age.
Billing Policies:
- The
customer will pay for all costs associated with the use of his/her
account(s).
- We
accept payments by credit card (Visa, MC or Discover) or by check.
- Monthly
charges are billed at the start of the service month.
- Check-paying
customers are sent their monthly statements via email. It is the
customer's responsibility to collect the monthly statement from their
email box.
- If
payment is not received by the due date, a late fee of $5.00 is
added to the account. Past due statements must be resolved within
5 business days or there will be an interruption in service. To
re-institute service, a $20.00 charge will be required as well as
the past due amount.
- If
a check-paying customer would like a statement sent to them via
US Postal mail, a $2.00 fee will be added.
- We
realize that paying by credit card isn't possible for everyone,
therefore we are happy to accept payment by check, provided that
the customer agrees to make prompt payments. "If you don't
pay, you don't play!"
- Customers
may cancel their account by sending email to billing@southland.net
or by notifying our business office at 714-441-3000. Accounts will
be de-activated at the end of the billing period in which the customer
submits his/her request to cancel service. If a customer chooses
to cancel an account before all fees owed to us are collected, the
customer are still responsible for the outstanding amount.
- Checks
returned for non-sufficient funds must be covered immediately by
the customer to ensure that his/her account stays active. Service
fees plus bank charges are applicable.
